Basic Principles of Food Combining

Why Should I Food Combine?

The main goal of proper food combining is to nourish the body, allow for quick absorption of nutrients, and rapid elimination of waste.  Many people have found that the following respond well to food combining:

Digestive Problems (e.g., bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, heartburn, ulcers, IBS)
AutoImmune Disorders (e.g., diabetes, fibromyalgia)
Neurological Disorders (e.g., migraines, insomnia)
Respiratory Problems (e.g., hay fever, allergies, asthma)
Mental/Emotional Problems (e.g., irritability, stress, lethargy, lack of energy)
Weight Management (i.e., weight gain or weight loss)
The above list is not meant to be comprehensive, merely examples.  As always, we suggest before making any changes to your diet, that you consult your physician to see if this lifestyle change would be appropriate for you.

Rules for Proper Food Combining

Protein & Starch
1.  Protein and Starch do not combine (e.g., steak & potato)--this slows digestion down and could cause indigestion

Two Concentrated Proteins

2.  Do not eat two Concentrated Proteins in the same meal (like meat & eggs)

Fruits & Vegetables
3.  Never eat Fruits and Vegetables Together --(can slow digestion and cause fermentation, bloating, gas)
         a. Melons are best eaten alone
         b. Do not mix acid fruits with sweet fruits

Drinking with Meals
4. Resist the temptation to Drink With Meals--(this can dilute your digestive juices)
